The Wake Forest University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences plays a central role in the educational mission of Wake Forest University. As the boundaries between traditional disciplines have become more diffuse, the Graduate School has responded with the development of new interdisciplinary graduate programs that cross departmental, school and campus lines. Programs leading to master's and PhD degrees are offered through the Graduate School. A combined MD/PhD program is offered in collaboration with the School of Medicine, a combined PhD/MBA program is available with the Babcock Graduate School of Management, and the Master of Science in Accountancy is offered in collaboration with the Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy. Also, Wake Forest University has teamed up with Virginia Tech to form the "Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences" (SBES). For a complete listing of graduate programs offered and their campus locations, see Academic Programs.

The Graduate School will continue to offer programs in traditional academic disciplines and will take the initiative in the development of new programs that build on the strengths of the faculty in responding to the needs of society in an ever-changing world.

The more than 520 graduate faculty, who are also members of several schools of the University to bring to the Graduate School research interests that range across the spectrum of academic disciplines. For a complete listing, see Graduate Faculty.

The University attracts superior students; in 2006-2007, undergraduate enrollment was 4,321 and graduate and professional enrollment was 2,418. Student enrollment in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences for fall 2006 is more than 10 percent of the total University enrollment, with almost 741 students currently pursuing graduate degrees. 437 of these students are enrolled in graduate programs on the Reynolda campus, and 304 students are in biomedical sciences programs on the Bowman Gray and associated campuses of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Under-represented Minority Informational SheetStudents come from all parts of the United States and several foreign countries to obtain a graduate education at Wake Forest University. Underrepresented minority students comprise approximately twelve percent of the total graduate enrollment. The graduate students have formed the Graduate Student Association (GSA), Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA), as well as the MD/PhD Student Association. The Associations encourage intellectual and social activities of interest to graduate students. Two members of the GSA serve on the Graduate Council. For more information, see Graduate Student Associations.
